According to the GitHub Changelog, GitHub Spark stopped accepting new users and blocked the creation of new applications on 4 August 2026. Current users can still access the platform until 31 August 2026 to retrieve their work. The company states that applications already deployed will continue to function after the shutdown. People who wish to maintain and edit their projects must open the Spark workbench, select the menu options, and choose to create a repository before the end of August.
Inference service shutdown
The background service powering the platform, GitHub Models, retired earlier on 30 July 2026. This means calls to the llm() function ceased on that date.
